YogaAndBackCare - Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial Fibrillation

Do look at this article http://www.healthfinder.gov/news/newsstory.aspx?docID=651544

It is published by the United States Department of Health and Human Science and describes a small study at the University of Kansas Hospital which found that patients who had atrial fibrillation ( which is a potentially dangerous irregular heartbeat ) episodes, experienced a drop in the number of episodes they were having over the three months of yoga practise.

Please check with your doctor if you want to start yoga and make sure your tell your yoga teacher before you start the class you have the condition.

I'd recommend some one-to-one sessions first so you can practise gently without wanting to keep up with a class. Something you should never feel pressurised into doing but it's very hard not to want to do the same as everybody else when you begin. It is only the more advanced student who realises that yoga is not about doing all the postures brilliantly but about listening to your own inner self and finding peace within.
